The whole MMS service in Germany has been shutdown by now.

This said, you won't be able to send and receive MMS here anymore, no matter what kind of phone or carrier you have.
It includes the latest 4G / 5G phone models as well.

Vodafone Germany has shutdown MMS Service already in 2023. Now Deutsche Telekom and Telefonica Germany followed July 1, 2026. So only RCS and messenger services are supported from now on.

If your communication partners were connected to Vodafone's towers, they weren't able to receive any MMS ...

It was GSM (2G) for sure 3G is already shutdown, and GSM is about to shutdown in Germany in 2028 as well.
Here the current statement from the Federal Network Agency (Bundenetzagentur):

In den letzten Jahren waren die nicht ausverkauft. Da dieses Jahr von der Nachfrage her alles anders ist, würde ich mich allerdings nicht drauf verlassen.
Außerdem gibts ab 16 Uhr keine Bändsel mehr.
