Heat wave

Hi all, this is my first time going to Fusion (solo), I am looking forward to it but I am getting stressed out a bit by the heat wave, mainly because I do have not yet been to Fusion. Checking the area on google maps there does not seem to be a lot of trees, so shade seems to be hard to find.

How are you preparing for this? I am bringing a tent + tarp. What other tips do (veteran?) fusionists have for me? In past years when it was hot, how was this handled? Is it somewhat easy to find shade or should I be prepared to not find shade? I am mainly trying to calm my nerves. Thanks a lot!

Hey! Depending on where you camp, there will likely be very little shade in the camping areas. There are only a few trees around the campsites, but it really depends on the specific spot where you end up camping. Most of the space has no trees.

On the festival ground, shaded areas are unfortunately quite limited as well. There are some exceptions, of course. For example, the Trance Floor is located among the trees, and Rootspace and some of the nearby areas benefit from natural shade. But overall, most of the floors and large parts of the festival site are not particularly shady. At least, that’s how it has been in previous years.

I’m actually curious myself to see how they’ll handle it this year. In any case, I would definitely recommend being prepared for a lot of sun. Bringing appropriate clothing, sunscreen, a water spray bottle, and anything else that helps you stay cool is a very good idea.

There are also some smaller wooded areas around the art installations, games, and places to explore where you can find a bit of shade, but a large part of the festival grounds is exposed to direct sunlight. That’s been my experience in past years, at least.

Hey!

The Panne Eichel floor (this year it will be called oaky doaky or something) is surrounded by trees. We always looked for shelter there when we wanted to dance and the sun was too hot. It is usually a few degrees colder and you'll be protected from direct sunlight.

Water spray bottle like already mentioned does a good job. This year we'll actually bring a foldable water container for a quick "shower" on the dancefloor and a beach umbrella to set up some sun-protected space where ever we want.

Here and there you'll find some showers by the dancefloors. Our last fusion (2024) which was very hot, we used them quite a lot. From the dancefloor fully clothed under the shower and back!

And there is pond where you can go from swim, very nice too with a little "beach".

And (i don't know if this actually is real memory  or just something i heard, or just something i want to believe :D but it could be that they spray water into the crowd with a hose on some floors

edit: ah yeah and electrolytes from the pharmacy or some isotonic drinks from the discounter will help you to fill up what u sweated out

To be honest, the weather forecast is getting me down too; even here in Berlin I’m struggling to cope with the temperatures, and I’ve got a fairly cool ground-floor flat with a garden…
I’ll get everything that might help: a tarp, an Ortlieb water bag with a shower attachment, a cooling towel, a water spray bottle, an umbrella for shade when you’re walking across the hot patches, and a hand-held fan. Sun protection and so on goes without saying.

And above all, you shouldn’t go to bed too late, as you won’t be able to stand it in the tent for long once the sun comes up.
