Re-impregnating tent & footprint best?
So after some 6 years it seems my tent & footprint might do well receiving a dose of re-impregnation. I got 2 cans of Imprenex for this tent, and its footprint (see schematic view for sz).

I was planning to put it up and spray it outdoors, but a friend said he'd found that not to be very efficient, or economic (getting the spray everywhere else, on himself, etc).
He recommended I instead do it indoors somewhere (I'm thinking our attic), and to pay extra attention to the seams.
Does anyone have any recs on how to best do this? Also wondering for how long the gear then would need to dry enough, before packing it back up.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Re-impregnating tent & footprint best?
Hey,
The two times so far, I took my tent to a park and set it up to reimpregnate it, so I can reach every surface and each of them can dry seperately and the whole tent dry out the smell of the spray. After a day in the sun and a little breeze it was dry enough to be packed in again.
If you have to do it indoors but no place to set it up, maybe you can stretch a clotheline (or even better two of them). ...and maybe, instead of doing the whole tent at once, going by surface after surface. (e.g. fixate the doorpart of your tent at the clothelines, spray it, let it dry some hours then move on to the next part...)
I hope this helps

Re: Re-impregnating tent & footprint best?
Serious question. Do (normal) tents need that?
My Salewa tent lasts since 2008 without any maintenence, still withstands rough rain for hours. Or is that for some special lightweight membranes?

Thank you very much for your input! Good point about the smell.rocke-tier hat geschrieben: Do 30. Apr 2026, 09:38 Hey,

I have indoors space -- the attic -- to set it up (it's also possible for me to let it dry longer there; can't wait all day outdoors but I could leave it f ex overnight indoors).
The main question now only is about whether the spray (it's usually a bit windy here) will end up everywhere else than on the actual tent & footprint (since it's necessary to spray from 20 cm away or whatever) if attempting this outdoors. Which would you recommend?

Re: Re-impregnating tent & footprint best?
Don't know. It rained through my 1st, €40 popup tent's zipper (!) so I returned it. This one's worked fine since (5000mm resp 6000mm groundsheet), but last year I noticed rainwater pooling in some places at the bottom. As it rained so much of the time, I had no chance of taking the contents out and letting it dry out properly either. And I'd rather not risk the same -- or even worse.Moselriesling hat geschrieben: Do 30. Apr 2026, 14:14 Serious question. Do (normal) tents need that?

There were 2 aspects which might've contributed to the issue (ending up partially in a slight dip on the ground, and the sky opening RIGHT when I'd set the tent up although not had time to actually pitch it properly; it wasn't anchored properly so to speak), but better safe than sorry.

Re: Re-impregnating tent & footprint best?
It depends on the usage and storing, I´d say. But after a while the impregnation fades away, so maybe you could give your tent a renewal to it´s 18th birthday. ...and invite your rain-clothes or even your friends´ tents to the party.Moselriesling hat geschrieben: Do 30. I wouldn´t mind about the wind that much. Since it´s an spray you want the particles to spread out instead of clutching together. Apply it in thin crosswise layers and repeat it until you´re fine.irrelevant hat geschrieben: Do 30.
